Classroom News...

Here in 3rd grade, we have been studying about animals and their natural habitats. We will continue our education on this topic when we visit the Fresno Chaffee Zoo soon. That field trip, and others, are paid in part by the PTO. Thanks to all who have contributed during fund raisers this year, that allowed the PTO the funds to enable us to participate in study trips.  In Mathematics, we are currently learning all about fractions! "Fractions are your friends," my high school mathematics teacher often said. We have already learned about the relationship between multiplication and addition, between multiplication and division, and we are striving to become fluent at the multiplication/division facts. One resource we are using is a web based program called, Reflex Math. This site can be accessed from home, and has been a real help to become fluent at the multiplication/division facts, to those students utilizing it. Speaking of fluent, we are reading an assortment of stories, the latest being 'The One and Only, Ivan'. This turned out to be a class favorite and is only one of the many stories we will read this year  in hopes of becoming fluent, life-long readers.

About Me

With TCSD since: 1985

Education:

I have a bachelor of science degree in human relations and organizational behavior and a master's degree in counseling and educational psychology.  I've attended USF, COS, Fresno State, Fresno Pacific, & University of Denver.

Experience:

I have been at Cypress since October of the initial year, 1985.

Classroom News...

Third grade has been studying how living things interact with their environments & how various animals survive in their particular habitats.   They’ve been demonstrating their writing skills in the non-fiction/science realm.   We’ve studied some amazing animals and living things. We’ve discussed how living things survive amidst changing habitats and have practiced organizing those thoughts into informational paragraphs.  We’ll enjoy the Fresno Zoo as a connecting field trip.

Students are studying some famous people, biographies, and histories, as we further our understanding of non-fiction writing and literature.

We’re launching the exploration of fraction concepts—delving into parts of a whole, fractions on a number line, & equivalent fractions—while reviewing the ideas of multiplication, sharing fairly, and arrays/area.   The perseverance practiced and needed for problem solving is definitely one of those life-long goals we want to foster and encourage for future college and career experiences.

A big THANK YOU  goes out to all the parents that work together to support their learners–celebrating improvements and setting goals regarding the weekly Evaluations (every Monday) and Progress Reports (mailed 1-22-16/2nd Trimester)—promptly returning them signed.  Complimenting the hard work students put into papers and projects encourages that process—bolstering confidence and furthering progress. Going over the student week using the weekly Friday Talking Points also promotes school/home communication.  In this way you make teamwork a daily/ weekly reality.   Thank you!
